There are several types of VPN; the two that Arkessa offer are Remote Access Service (RAS) VPN and Secure Site to Site VPN using the IPsec protocol suite.
An RAS VPN should be used when the solution requires ad-hoc access to the devices. The other features of using a RAS VPN are:
- The connection can be established from any location or computer that has the RAS VPN software installed and an internet connection
- Login credentials are required for added security
- Aside from a simple software (Cisco AnyConnect) install, no configuration is required from the customer's side
A Secure Site to Site VPN will be needed if the solution requires a permanent route to and from the SIM devices. Other features of a Secure Site to Site VPN are:
- The data is encrypted in transit between the customer's network and Arkessa's network
- The VPN will be permanently active and no login is required
- Single or dual VPNs can be implemented for resiliency
In addition, customers can create a device-initiated Secure Site to Site VPN to encrypt the data, and this would be transparent to Arkessa.
